Reimagining Rescue: Turning a Place of Pain Into a Future of Hope

This Giving Tuesday, something extraordinary happened.
Our community came together with compassion, generosity, and a shared belief that every dog deserves safety, dignity, and love. Because of you, we raised $7,112 toward our $30,000 Reimagining Rescue goal — an incredible 23.7% of the way there.

From the bottom of our hearts: thank you. Your donations didn’t just move us closer to a number. They brought us closer to rewriting the story of a place that desperately needs a new ending.

Just months ago, the property we’re now working to transform wasn’t a sanctuary for animals. It wasn’t a haven. It wasn’t even humane. It was a commercial breeding facility. One that was considered “reputable.” One operating legally in our own community. And one where the suffering of dogs was hidden behind closed doors, paperwork, and profit margins.

Inside those walls: Large-breed dogs were kept in stacked kennels. The harsh reality is this: dogs weighing 70 to 90 pounds were almost certainly never lifted in and out of those upper cages. Many likely lived entire lives without stepping foot outside them.

Mama dogs raised litter after litter, never knowing a soft bed, a gentle touch, or a life beyond producing puppies for sale.

Puppies were kept behind a “DO NOT TOUCH” sign — not for their well-being, but to protect their market value.

And their only “outdoor space” was a narrow slab of concrete, colder than the reality of their daily existence.

These were dogs who were treated not as family…Not even as living beings… But as inventory. And yet today — because of you — this same space is on the verge of becoming something entirely new. With your help, TLC is taking over this property to ensure that no dog will ever suffer here again.

We are committed to tearing down the last remnants of its painful past and rebuilding a future where compassion lives in every corner.

But this project is big. Bigger than anything we’ve taken on before.

Demolition, rebuilding, restoring, redesigning — all to create a space that reflects the love we believe every dog deserves. A space that will allow us to save more lives, offer more support, and build a stronger foundation for rescue in the years ahead.

Giving Tuesday was the first step. An incredible one. But the work continues.

Pawsitively Merry Memories! A Look Back at Santa Photos! 

What do reindeer, rescue dogs, and a very famous beard have in common? They all make for the best holiday photos!

A North Pole Tradition

Santa started visiting TLC for photos about five years ago after one of the rescue's elves sent a note to the North Pole. I, Mrs. Santa Paws, joined him three years ago. I had to wait until a few of the elves felt comfortable watching the reindeer. They can be rascals if you don't keep an eye on them!

We’re busy this time of year, but we know the value of a fun picture of your dog. We truly enjoy meeting everyone who has opened their hearts and homes to a four-legged friend!

Wagging Tails & Whisker Kisses

It can be challenging! Dogs don't always want to sit with someone they don't know. Family members often sit with their pups, which makes everyone more comfortable and often results in a perfect, Christmas card-worthy picture!

My favorite aspect? When a shy or scared dog decides they like us after all, sometimes even rewarding me with a smooch! It probably doesn't hurt that I usually keep treats in the pocket of my apron.

SEEKING HAPPY TAIL – SCHWARBER

While the Phillies worked hard to keep slugger Kyle Schwarber in Philadelphia, we at TLC are just as determined to help our own Schwarber find his furever home. Schwarber joined the TLC team in May after being rescued from Mississippi as part of an unwanted litter, nicknamed the Philly Fanatics. All of his siblings have found their families, and we are hoping that Schwarber’s turn will come soon.

Schwarber is sweet, loving, and playful, and loves being with his trusted people. He is curious and loves to explore on walks. Once he feels safe, he becomes the most affectionate and happy companion - he is one of his foster’s all-time favorite dogs. With his foster family, he enjoys cuddling on the couch, exploring the yard, and playing with his four-legged friends. He is housebroken on a schedule, crate trained (especially if treats are in play), and loves every dog he meets - he may thrive with another confident canine sibling. He is even cat-friendly.

New people and unfamiliar situations can be overwhelming for Schwarber, so he will need an adopter who is patient and understanding, and willing to let him take the lead as he continues to build his confidence. He may not be the dog who rushes to greet every visitor, but to the family willing to take the time to earn his trust, Schwarber will give his whole heart and more. With compassion, patience, and the right game plan, this sweet and gentle soul is ready to hit his own home run - finding the furever family that sees how special he truly is.

Photo Tip: Capturing Your Dog with Santa

1. Tire Them Out First: A quick walk or play session helps your dog stay calm.

2. Bring Treats or Toys: Use them to grab your dog’s attention and keep them focused.

3. Practice Commands: Brush up on “sit” and “stay” beforehand for a well-posed pup.

4. Get on Their Level: Kneel or crouch to capture your dog and Santa from their perspective.

5. Patience is Key: Be ready to snap multiple shots—those candid moments often turn out the best!
