It’s resolution making time! If you’re anything like me, saying I’ll work out or eat better next year is well intended, but I know I’ll never follow through with either. There’s a third commonly made resolution that’s much easier to stick to – the one that says I’ll give back.

As a rescue run by volunteers, TLC is always looking for folks who want to step up, even if it’s only for a few minutes every once in a while. Helping us to complete some of our goals is a great way to satisfy your resolution, while saving the lives of some pups at the same time. Giving back doesn’t have to mean a huge time or financial commitment. You can do as much or as little as you’re able, as long as you do something.

For those who want to jump in full force, we have tasks for you. Join our application team, which processes tons of requests for dogs every month. You can be the first step in matching the right adopter to the right dog.

Fosters share their homes, time, and love with every dog that comes through TLC, acting as the bridge between our shelter partners and their furever family. The more fosters we have, the more dogs we can help. Everything is provided by TLC, you give the dogs a place to crash.

Meeting one of the transport vehicles as the dogs make their “freedom ride” only takes a little while, but is essential to what we do. Transport volunteers help the dogs transition from the shelter to their foster.  

Every week, we have Meet and Greets at local businesses, which allows us to present adoptable dogs to the public. This means volunteers to handle each dog, to direct interested and potential adopters, and to chat with folks to help get the word out.

Only have a few minutes here and there? You can still make a difference. You’ve probably already seen our posts on social media, but did you know that simply liking, sharing, or commenting on our stories and posts can have a big impact? A quick click will boost our visibility and move us up in the ever-present algorithm. When more people see us, more people see our dogs and more of them get adopted.

Are you good with a camera? Do your friends consider you a wordsmith? Are you a social butterfly or do you spend a lot of time on Facebook or TikTok? We can put your skills to good use. From spending a minute or two every here and there to having hours to dedicate, TLC can use your help. 

We have a marketing team, events planners, fundraising committees, and lots of opportunities available for anyone who would like to give back, in whatever capacity they can.

So next year, instead of feeling guilty because you didn’t take that walk or you had a second donut, you can feel good about yourself. Not only because you actually did something, but because you helped a dog too.

This month’s volunteer spotlight belongs to the driving force behind our website - a small (but mighty!) team of six who are focused on showcasing our adorable, adoptable pups and the amazing work of our volunteers. Seeking Happy Tail: Santa’s Nice List

At TLC Rescue, we know how much Santa’s approval influences your decision to adopt a dog.  That’s why this year, for our Seeking Happy Tail, we’re spotlighting the dog’s who have officially made Santa’s Nice List! These pups are ready to bring love, joy and wagging tails to their furever homes!

Sweet Pea & Zena - These sweet schnauzer sisters spent most of their lives in a commercial breeding facility (their former owner’s definitely on the naughty list).  Rescued from that tough start, these girls have earned their place on the Nice List by being professional snugglers and top-tier loungers.  They’ll bring smiles to everyone they meet while they wait patiently for their furever family.

Pearl & Shadow - While not sisters by blood, Pearl & Shadow have been family for years. They were adopted in 2015 & 2016, only to be heartbreakingly surrendered together this year due to illness. Adjusting to a new life isn’t easy, but these sweet girls have shown nothing but grace and positivity - traits that put them squarely on Santa’s Nice List.  Affectionate, friendly and as loving as can be, they’re ready to make a special family feel whole.

Star - This young pup has faced a lot of change recently, but she’s handled it with poise. A little shy at first, Star is looking for a family that will let her bloom into the playful, happy girl she’s meant to be. She’s on the Nice List because she’s been the perfect houseguest in her foster home. Give her a chance, and Star will shine brightly in your life this holiday season! 

Lydia - Lydia was adopted as a puppy in 2019 and recently returned to TLC Rescue. But don’t let that make you think she’s naughty—Lydia is the sweetest 35-pound bundle of joy. She’s not just on Santa’s Nice List; she’s also on the Snuggle List, the Best Walkies List, and the Perfect Pup List! Whether she’s under your tree or snuggled beside you on the couch, Lydia will make your holiday season merry and bright.

Birdie - This petite lady, tipping the scales at just 32 pounds, is thriving in her foster home. Birdie made the Nice List because of her gentle spirit and her knack for spreading holiday cheer. Whether she’s giving sweet kisses, cuddling up for a cozy evening, or trotting happily on a leash, Birdie is the total package. She’s proof that great things come in small packages, and she’s ready to make your season—and your life—complete.

And Brigette, our goofy, gorgeous shepherd mix, will finally begin her heartworm treatment, paving the way for her to live the long, happy life she deserves.
