Hattie

It will be 3 months this coming Monday since we adopted this sweet angel and brought her to her forever home!

It took some time to get her to trust us… but finally she warmed up to me (her Mama) and much later to her Daddy! We kept visitors to a minimum as the 3-3-3 rule suggests and started introducing guests very slowly with her. Now she excepts new people a bit easier, especially when bearing treats!

She is a foodie! She just loves to eat and chow time is her favorite time of day! We include fresh pumpkin puree and unsalted green beans with each bowl of chow and some sliced banana at breakfast! She gets 3 squares a day, along with treats - and believe me - she knows when chow time is!

She is just the love of our life! We finally got her to come out of her shell and run around outside like the crazy girl she really is! She runs faster than a rocket when we get her going… doing figure eights all over our yard and around our house and garden! It’s a site to be seen! Then exhausted and pooped… she comes back to her water bowl, drinks water, and is ready for her nap inside!

I bought her a robe to keep her warm on these cold mornings. She seems to really like its comforting snuggle around her skinny long body. We call her Long-Dog, Little-Head, Madhatter, Hattie-battie, Elvis Lip, Naughty Noodle…among other adoring names.

If she has one flaw it would be that she is too smart! Maybe that’s from living on the streets for much of her puppy life! She can be a bit stubborn and trying to train her for our underground fence has been a challenge as she sees those white flags. She knows what they mean and therefore she refuses to walk near them to learn! She felt only one time a correction and thats all she needed to make her say… “no more for me”! So we’re at a bit of a stand still regarding those flags. Her desire to chaise squirrels and deer is strong so we need to teach to her to stay inside the electric fence area!

Well we’re not giving up! We’re stubborn, too! We’re not going to lose this precious angel. She’ll eventually learn her boundaries.

All and all she is just a delight! How we were so lucky to get her is still amazing to us both! Our life is complete. Hattie is home!
