Reimagining Rescue
We are stepping into a new chapter — one rooted in transformation, healing, and hope. We have taken over a former commercial breeding facility right in our backyards, a place that for decades stood as a symbol of pain and profit.
This is the future of our life-saving mission.
We’ve secured a new property that will dramatically expand our ability to rescue, rehabilitate, and save more dogs than ever before. But this project isn’t just about more space...it’s about transforming what rescue can and should be.
For years, this building was a commercial breeding facility operating right in our backyards until just a few short months ago. A building with cinderblock kennels that still carries the harsh stench and built-up grime of years of deplorable factory-style breeding — a heavy reminder that dogs are still being treated as commodities instead of companions still in this modern day and age.
This GivingTuesday, we’re aiming to raise $30,000 to quite literally demolition this building’s past and make room for the future every dog deserves.
And this moment is bigger than a building.
You become part of a movement transforming what rescue can — and should — look like. This isn’t just about rescuing dogs from breeding facilities. It’s about reclaiming those spaces, transforming what once was and creating a future where every dog can experience a home filled with love.
The Need
At To Love a Canine Rescue, we believe the future of animal welfare is built inside homes, not cages.
Our 100% foster-based model is core to who we are — and central to the world we’re working to build: a world where no dog is left behind, no dog suffers, and every dog knows love before they ever meet their forever family.
Traditional shelters often leave dogs scared, stressed, shut down, or overlooked.
But at TLC, dogs go straight into warm, safe homes where they can decompress, heal, and become themselves again. Our foster families learn their personalities, ensure they feel loved, guide them through life in a home, and prepare them for the furever they deserve.
And now, we’re taking a transformational step forward.
This new property that will dramatically expand our capacity to rescue, rehabilitate, and save more dogs than ever before.
But first, we need to clear the way for that future.
Right now, the building still carries the harsh stench and the built-up grime from years of deplorable factory-style breeding, along with the heavy reminder of a past where dogs were treated as commodities rather than companions.
Getting involved at this stage means your support becomes part of the story forever. This isn’t just another fundraiser — it’s the beginning of a legacy. When this facility opens its doors, you’ll know you helped build it from the very start. By donating now, you help shape what this space will become and ensure it opens with hope, safety, and purpose at its core.
The Reality
Within these walls, countless dogs lived in harsh conditions, never knowing comfort, kindness, or care. We’re rewriting the story.
Commercial breeders are synonymous with puppy mills. No matter what you call it, the result is the same. Dogs are kept in difficult living quarters and used to breed puppies for profit alone. It is often inhumane, unregulated, and heartbreaking.
And the scariest piece of this reality? This was happening right here in our backyard. Most of these stories take place in areas like Lancaster, but this particular story was settled into the back roads of Kimberton, PA.
There are approximately 10,000 puppy mills in the U.S and PA is one of the largest offenders.
“Dealers” can receive a license to operate a commercial facility even if they have a history of failing to provide care for their animals.
A 2024 ASPCA study noted 30% of the violations found were for veterinary care issues — dogs were sick, injured or even dead without having been seen by a veterinarian or given medical care.
The Roadmap
NOW - Phase 1: Reclaim this space
With our new building, we’ll be able to improve care, streamline lifesaving operations, welcome more dogs in need, and strengthen the support system behind our fosters — ensuring every dog gets the individualized attention they deserve. But before we get there, there’s a tremendous amount of work ahead.
From demolition and clearing out the remnants of its past life, to reimagining the layout, designing safe and purposeful spaces, and building a future that reflects our values — this is a full transformation from the ground up. This multi-year project brings us closer to turning a place once defined by suffering into a sanctuary of healing, hope, and second chances.
We dream of empty shelters.
We dream of a future where community education reduces the number of dogs who ever need rescue.
We dream of a world where compassion is the norm, not the exception.
Help us reclaim this space and reimagine a world where every dog is safe, loved, and finally home.
