Junior Volunteers

We believe in the future of our community and what that means for the world of rescue moving forward. When this organization began ten years ago, our founders recognized a need for educating the youth about responsible pet ownership and care.

Since then, we have created a free youth-centered group that focuses on learning more about dogs so that our volunteers can become the next generation of leaders in the rescue world.

Mini Paws

Mini Paws is a FREE program for boys and girls ages 4 - 18. It is designed to train our junior volunteers in proper animal care and instill a love of community service.

Through monthly meetings, our Mini Paws are educated about responsible pet ownership. They’re also given the skills to feel confident in public speaking, the opportunity to participate in peer-to-peer educational programs, and encouraged to put their newfound leadership skills to use by developing and/or leading community projects of their own. Some of them even foster our available dogs in their own homes.

Mini Paws get to experience a variety of topics through field trips and guest speakers covering topics like:

  • Handling & Behavior

  • Working Dogs

  • K9 Police Units

  • Search & Rescue Units

  • Benefits of Dog Socialization for Seniors

  • Dog Bathing & Hygeine

and SO much more!

Lend a Paw Program

This program takes volunteering to the next level with a hands-on junior volunteer mentorship experience!

The Lend a Paw Program gives junior volunteers the opportunity to work directly with a rescue director to design a personalized service project tailored to their interests, strengths, and community service goals.

Whether students need service hours for school, clubs, scholarships, or simply want to make a bigger impact, this program helps them create a meaningful experience while supporting rescue dogs in need.

Students interested in the program will need to sign up to be a volunteer, but this program can be the sole purpose of their volunteering.

I really like what TLC supports and stands for as a rescue, especially the thought they put towards including younger people in the rescue process.
— Lend a Paw Program Participant, Grace

Participants close the program with a certificate of completion, paperwork signed and sent to their school, working experience for their resumes, and the knowledge that their help provided a positive impact on pups in need!
