Bessie
When we first agreed to foster Bessie, we thought it was just about helping her shed some pounds and then sending her off to her forever family.
Sweet and eager, she loved walks and playtime—but things quickly took a turn. She developed a cough so severe it shook the house, and sometimes collapsed gasping for air. Vet visits revealed pneumonia and, shockingly, that she’d been shot in the face earlier in her life. An emergency hospital stay left us unsure she’d survive, but Bessie’s stubborn spirit pulled her through.
After months of treatments, setbacks, and sleepless nights, she stabilized. Potential adopters passed her by once they heard about her medical history and upcoming heartworm treatment—until her new mom met her.
After hearing the whole story, she simply asked, “How is she with stairs?” That’s when we knew Bessie had found her person.
From the brink of death to a happy new life, Bessie is truly otherworldly—proof of why we foster.
